The chapter starts by Scout and Jem talking in the court, at the trial of Tom Robinson. The sherif Heck Tate comes as a witness, and tells about what happened on november 21st. He says that Mr. Bob Ewell called him on that night, saying that his daughter Mayella has been beaten up and raped by Tom Robinson, and they went to Ewell's house, checked Mayella, then after making sure that Tom did it by asking Mayella, Heck went to Tom's house and locked him up. Atticus questions him of why didn't Heck took Mayella to the hospital, and also about the injuries of Mayella. Heck says that she had bruises everywhere including her arms, and even on her eye, her right eye. Then the next witness comes up, which is Bob Ewell, father of Mayella Ewell. Mr. Glimer asks Bob about the incident on november 21st. Bob says that on that day, he was returning home, and he could here his daughter's scream from the house.So he ran up, then saw Tom Robinson raping her daughter, and he ran into the house, but Tom ran away, and he couldn't chase Tom because of Mayella's condition. Then, he ran to Heck Tate. Atticus asks questions, the asks Bob if he could write.So then Bob writes his name and shows everyone, then Atticus says Bob is Left handed.(Which means that there is a posibility of Bob Ewell hitting her daughter in her rigt eye.) Then Jem thinks that his father might win this trial.
